Exciting news!
Our Recruitment Administrator, Tahnia Garbutt-Canning is a proud Yankuntjatjarra and Bundjalung woman and has had her unique design picked by Bunnings during NAIDOC Week 2022!
Tahnia is working with First People Recruitment Solutions in a traineeship, building her knowledge of the recruitment world, utilising her transferable skills from her career in retail. Working from the Canberra office, Tahnia has spent five months supporting our Recruitment Consultants and working alongside other trainees to learn how we work and what we do.
Having spent many years in retail, Tahnia still works with Bunnings occasionally, so when her friends let her know that they were holding a competition for the best Aboriginal artwork, she tentatively entered without expectations.
The chosen piece of art ‘My Mob’ is an original piece by Tahnia, created long before the competition announcement went public. She submitted the piece not knowing what was to come.
“It had been quite some time since I applied when I received the news. Out of the blue, I received a congratulations e-mail and I was so stunned! It was just surreal!”
From here, Bunnings showcased her beautiful work on their café coffee cups sold across all Australia and New Zealand stores.
Tahnia is a contemporary artist using procreate to make digital art pieces. She has been crafting her skills since high school. With the support and encouragement of her teachers, she visited different Aboriginal exhibitions and embraced her talent.
Tahnia found inspiration to start creating her Aboriginal artworks to be closer with her culture. She had always used art as an outlet to channel her feelings and emotions which carried into her designs. The inspiration behind the piece came from a deep love for her family and her journey so far.
“I bought an iPad and then started playing around with its capabilities and I just got right into it,” she said.
We are proud to support her and her incredible designs and are very excited to see her future success with us and beyond. Congratulations, Tahnia!
